In Design and Technology at Northern Parade we consider our children to have limitless imagination and want the children to get involved in a wide range of hands-on learning through Design and Technology lessons and that they become inventive designers, makers and thinkers. Through Design and Technology pupils will learn how to take risks
and how to become enterprising, capable and innovative citizens. It is also intended that pupils develop an understanding of the significance of Design and Technology and its importance and impact on the wider world. Design and Technology is a practical hands-on subject and can
help build confidence and improve emotional well-being, it is a vital practical and creative outlet for children in particular when they might not have the words to describe what they are feeling.
Our curriculum, whilst ambitious, is also accessible to all children. The design and technology curriculum at Northern Parade has been carefully built around the learning opportunities and assessment milestones for each year group crafted to ensure progression and repetition in terms
of embedding key learning, knowledge and skills. Going forward it is intended that pupils' work is displayed in DT books showing the design, make and evaluate cycle – these DT journals will remain with them throughout their primary DT journey. Children’s work is continually assessed against National Curriculum objectives and our children are encouraged to self-reflect and assess their work, ensuring that every child makes progress within and across year groups. We actively
make links to prior knowledge enabling pupils to know more and remember more.
