British Sign Language Lessons/Signed supported English |
The Sensory Impaired Resource has its own communicator, who teaches hearing impaired children British Sign Language, this is on-going in the classroom as well as timetabled lessons delivered within the Resource.
Sign supported English is used during Literacy and again lessons are delivered in the resource. Each small word within the English language has a sign, for example a, to, too, the, as, etc.
The Sensory Impaired Resource also runs a Sign Language Club for all the pupils interested in learning Sign. |

Life Skills |
Life skills is an opportunity for the Sensory Impaired children to come together and develop their social interactive skills as well as developing skills needed to be as independent as possible. We cover subjects such as, road systems, public transport, everyday skills in the kitchen, shopping, emergency services, animals etc. The aim is to help children develop their conceptual understanding by giving them real life experiences. |
Pre and Post tutoring |
Individual one-to-one tuition is often invaluable for children struggling in school as the result of any learning difficulty or combination of learning difficulties, because, unlike classroom teachers, an assistant providing tutoring can give a child their full attention and ensure that the level and pace of their teaching is suited to the child’s needs.
|
Precision Teaching |
Precision Teaching is a teaching method used to accelerate progress particularly in word reading and spelling skills although it is also used to increase children's proficiency in number facts. It aims to find what teaching strategy is most effective for a particular child and to use it. It builds on that child’s successes and raises their self- esteem. |

Sidney is an intervention programme that targets children that need additional support with Literacy. The programme is delivered 1:1 and helps your child to learn all the letters of the alphabet and the sounds that each letter makes. Your child will bring home certificates to indicate when they have completed a section of the programme successfully.
